What you can expect from online counseling

We'll start with a free 15-minute consultation where we'll get to know each other a bit. I'll learn about why you're seeking support and we'll explore how I might help you. This is also a great opportunity for us to see if we both feel we'll be a good fit together.

The next step is to meet for a 90-minute intake session where we'll dive a bit deeper, exploring your main concern in more detail. I'll ask more questions about your background such as family history, cultural background, and medical history, and I'll also ask about your current functioning, like sleep, energy levels, and mood changes. This all helps me get a better picture of who you are and what factors make up your lived experience. Of course, if there is anything you are not comfortable sharing, that is absolutely okay and we will go at your pace.

How long does anxiety and depression counseling take?

I've found that my clients make the most progress when we meet weekly for the first 3-6 months, depending on your needs. I have found this to be most supportive for creating a strong therapeutic relationship, which is one of the key factors in successful therapy, as well as facilitating momentum in your healing journey. After 3-6 months, we will reassess to determine if the weekly cadence is still necessary or if biweekly appointments are more appropriate.

During our sessions, you can expect that I will create a warm and safe environment for you to share and process at whatever level is most comfortable to you. I will share my ideas with you, provide new perspectives, and encourage you to try things in a new way. We'll explore your values – who you want to be and how you want to live. We'll check in on your weekly goals and take steps to address any speed bumps that come up along the way. I aim for you to leave each session with something tangible to practice or explore further, so I may introduce a mindfulness or grounding exercise during session, collaborate with you to establish new/different habits, or help you identify a new way of navigating a particular situation or challenge.

Overall, my goal is to help you work through the things keeping you stuck so you can begin moving toward the rich and meaningful life you want without anxiety or depression in the driver's seat.
